Island general law mean?
In an era of increased specialization, the Law Office of
Devane, Fogarty & Ribezzo established this Rhode
Island general law practice with a more traditional goal
in mind: becoming the family lawyer. To us, this means that we
need to be prepared to assist clients, their friends, and
their families in getting through the variety of problems that
life can present and, as importantly, being prepared to deal
with an assortment of legal issues without sacrificing the
quality that specialization offers. Our primary sources of
business are referrals from existing clients and repeat
business.

The Law Office of Devane,
Fogarty & Ribezzo handles an assortment of personal injury
cases (auto accidents, slip & falls, and other negligence
causes of action as well as intentional torts) and also other
civil matters (contract disputes and other miscellaneous
issues) from inception through trial if necessary. A large
portion of our business deals with family law (divorces,
custody, visitation, etc.).
We also draft wills and other estate planning documents as
well as service clients with all probate matters
(guardianships, probating wills, etc.). The Law Office
represents clients on several varieties of employment matters
and often engaged on appeals for unemployment benefits free of
charge to our client. We assist in financial planning and file
personal bankruptcies (chapters 7 and 13) on behalf of clients
as necessary. We also do a considerable amount of
administrative law including, but not limited to
representation concerning zoning (residential and commercial),
construction and licensing issues, discrimination, and
municipal matters. The firm handles criminal matters (both
felony and misdemeanor) as well as commercial and residential
landlord and tenant matters. We also assist in a variety of
other personal and professional law related issues.
There are certain instances where we feel that we do the best
service to a client by referring work to another attorney
(patent issues, worker’s compensation, and real estate
closings for example). In most instances, the Law Office of
Devane, Fogarty & Ribezzo has worked with these lawyers
for years and we are comfortable that they will provide our
clients with a level of service commensurate with that which
our firm provides. We often remain active in these cases and
can always be used as a client contact as needed.
